Driving in the bush

Spent yesterday afternoon working in our satellite surgery in a little country town 30km to the south of here. Now if there was any lingering doubt about the ‘ruralness’ of where I currently am working, there’s no doubt down there. It’s a beautiful drive through farmland and foothills, along the base of the escarpment. It reminded me how much I enjoy travelling, driving through the country on holidays. It’s something I’ve missed since we’ve had little kids, and look forward to getting back into it when they are a bit older. If there’s one definitive test of ruralness for me, which defines when I’ve passed out of the realm of the capital city, it’s when I lose Triple J reception on the city frequency. Once I can’t get Triple J at all, or have to change stations to find it, that’s when I know I’m in the country. I passed that point about halfway down to the town yesterday.
