On being wealthy

I’m getting a bit annoyed by the stream of derogatory letters from Latham supporters in the paper the last couple of days, many of which are driectly critical of the majority of Australian voters who did not side with them on Saturday. “Shame on you Australia” is the general gist of most of them. “We were robbed” “You’re all selfish and materialistic” “You were all tricked and deceived by that lying Howard” “We all have blood on our hands”, to paraphrase a few more.
Why is it that these people only buy into the idea of democracy when it suits them? Can’t they accept that an increasing majority of Australians have decided that they support the current government and did not like the alternative. Proposing that over half of all Australians are stupid and/or gullible enough to be hoodwinked into voting for the wicked coalition is preposterous. Why can’t they just accept that the electorate has spoken and that they will have another chance in 3 years time? Mercifully, this kind of talk has (mostly) come from disenchanterd members of the public and not from the Labor party big-wigs themselves - they are much more sensibly taking a more introspective approach along the lines of “what did we do wrong”, which will be much more constructive for them in the long term than crying unfair and blaming the lies of the other side and the stupid public. They wisely see that calling the public dumb will not do them any favours next time around.
